Historic Carriage Roads of Acadia National Park.Acadia National Park’s 45 miles of historic carriage roads are one of the park’s most notable attractions. Commissioned by philanthropist John D. Rockefeller, Jr., the carriage road system at Acadia National Park is noted as the best example of such roads in the country.
The hand-laid roads made of broken stone measure 16 feet and were specially engineered to complement the contours of the park’s topography. Much consideration was also given to optimum viewing sites.
Scenic Acadia National Park Drives & Tours.Touring Acadia National Park by personal vehicle is an excellent and comfortable way to explore the majority of the park.
